Our "Older" Girls
(age 6+)

The little girls waiting on this page are not bedridden, nor are they without a face or a voice.  You see angels hidden away in a mental institution, when they could be part of a family and achieving more than anyone ever dreamed for them!

Please consider adopting one or more of these precious little gifts from Heaven, or make a life-saving sponsorship donation to our Older Girls General Grant Fund so another family can afford to do so!
** As of February 19, 2010, a $140 grant is available for the next family who adopts a little girl from this page.***

 Kate  (46)

Girl, Born December 28, 2003
This beautiful, brown haired, brown eyed angel is living a dream when it comes to orphanage life.   She is already 5 years old, but is living in a "school", where she actually has an opportunity to learn.   She is just SO beautiful, look at her!   God has given her a second chance, and saved her from a level 4 mental institution.   She was diagnosed with a cardiomyopathy, but you can see from her photos that she is doing well, is very active, and clearly able to learn, or else they would never have sent her to this place.

Please give Kate a loving family, to show her true potential!  She is in the same orphanage with Dasha, and can be adopted together.

 Claudia (30)

Girl Born March 5, 2004

Claudia is a beautiful little girl with long brown hair and brown eyes. She wasn't real keen on saying "cheese" in her photo, but she is well loved and a happy girl. She was born with an oval window, but it may have closed on it's own. Claudia is very active and playful, high functioning, has many words, and is doing very well.
Claudia is already 5 years old, so she needs a family VERY quickly.   We are hopeful a family will come forward for Miss Claudia!

Anjelica

Girl, Born 2003

Anjelica was half-orphaned by her mother who died of heart attack. She was then cared for by her maternal grandmother who later died due to old age. With the latter’s death, the custody of Anjelica went to her maternal grandmother’s brother and sister-in-law, who subsequently referred her to the orphanage considering that they are also old with no sufficient income. While at the orphanage Anjelica’s father appeared and signed the deed of voluntary commitment relinquishing Anjelica to the care of the state. Anjelica’s father claimed incapability to provide for the child’s needs.

In 2007, Anjelica was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and ventricular septal defect.  She also had TB in the same year.  She was also as born with Down syndrome.

Anjelica is undernourished and is continually provided with Pediasure milk twice a day to supplement her food intake and improve her weight. She measures 85 centimeters in height and weighs 9.2 kilograms. Due to her congenital heart disease-ventricular septal defect, Anjelica takes lanoxin, aldactone, and furosemide.

At her age she can sit, stand alone for several minutes and make 3 to 5 steps without assistance. She can walk sideways holding on to the rails but most of the time she prefers to crawl than walk. She can hold objects and make actions like clapping, waving good-bye, and do flying kisses to familiar persons. She knows her name and understands simple instructions. She can also feed herself with snacks and drinks in a training cup without assistance. She can say bi-syllable words and uses body language or gestures to communicate what she wants. She easily cries if she does not get what she wants but is easily pacified. She is not yet toilet trained and needs assistance from her caregivers.

Anjelica enjoys and dances to music. She also loves playing with toys and participates in the activities provided by her caregivers. She is also comfortable even with strangers. Anjelica was referred to the Philippine Heart Center and is still under observation by her pediatric-cardiologist.

Tara

Girl, Born September 30, 2002
China

She is extroverted and can express her feelings very well. When she is happy she will greet you warmly and embrace you enthusiastically; if she thinks that she was treated wrongly she will make sharp sound and cry loudly to blow off her discontent. She has made great physical progress and can go up and down stairs and loves to dance around!

 Dasha  (46)

Girl, Born May 22, 2003

Dasha has blonde hair and blue eyes.  Pardon her lack of a smile, but she is a very active and friendly little girl.  She is HEALTHY, with no medical complications from her Down syndrome.

Dasha is in the same wonderful orphanage as Kate, below, and has truly been given a 2nd chance at life.  Won't you give her something to smile about?

"Veronika", # 59

Girl, Born on April 18, 2001

Veronika is another Baltic beauty, with blue eyes and blonde hair.  She is described as calm and well-behaved.    She willingly performs directions from adults, and waits for encouragement and praise for doing a good job.   Veronika is very observant...she keeps a close watch on adult’s speech and action, understands directions with the help if gestures/signs, tries to imitate adult behaviors, and reacts very positively to praise.  She doesn't  like to be reprimanded.   Veronika gladly engages in contact with a known adult, is cautious in contact with strangers, can cooperate with peers, and can play common games.  Nevertheless, she plays very well on her own as well.    She  is able to act consistently and determinedly when she has a good routine (this is another common thread for children with Down syndrome).  She has difficulties "switching gears" quickly.  She can analyze and compare in a simple level, but cannot separate colors and sizes yet.  She has a small vocabulary, is familiar with the parts of the body, eats independently, drinks from a cup, observes manners at the table, dresses and undresses alone, and brushes her teeth without assistance.   Sounds like the perfect child to me!

  • Both parents for 2 weeks for bonding time
  • Both parents come back for court several weeks later  (only a couple of days)
  • One parent returns for 4 days to complete Embassy paperwork
  • Total cost, including travel approx $22,000

Molly (# B28)

Girl, Born June 13, 2003

Molly is a little girl with amazing potential for growth and achievement!  Although she has signs of a Hemangioma hepatitis established in 2005, she is doing well health wise.   Molly is walking now and doing well!     She is able to feed herself and will do so well in a family setting!

Mary Margaret

Girl, Born December 24, 2002

What a glowing smile!  Mary Margaret is HEALTHY, and doing well.  She is a Christmas Eve baby!

She is very active and happy and affectionate.    Her speech is quite delayed, and she is behind little Cara in her emotional and academic development.   But she is still darling and very deserving  of a loving family!  She will be a wonderful addition to any family.  We are seeking a family quickly for both her and Cara, as they are both nearing the time when they must be transferred to the home for severely disabled children (no other place to go).

From her caregivers:  Down Syndrome, her psychomotor abilities are underdeveloped, so is her language ability and her development in academic level in school. Emotionally: She is social, easy going and likes to participate in all activities, socially has adapted well to other kids and staff, she is not aggressive with herself or to others. Goes to the Rafael Arganiz School in which she receives adequate treatment for Down syndrome.

From missionaries who visited with her recently:

"  She is so beautiful and very calm.  Kind of serious, yet happy.  She loved playing with my children and coloring.  She also enjoyed looking at books and coloring with a crayon.  She walked around with us all morning on our tour.  She loves my boys and walks everywhere holding Faith’s hand.   She doesn’t speak at all, but she really isn’t all that “behind”.  She is very independent and can feed herself, walk, dress, etc. alone.  She is very social and high functioning.  I know her little write up makes it sound like she’s really behind Cara.  She is in some areas, yet she isn’t.  She was coloring and drawing circles yesterday.  She loves to look at books too.  It’s really cute because she always straightens things up too.  I guess she likes things organized.  LOL  I think she is going to advance very quickly with a family.  "

"Natalija",# 60

Girl, Born on March 16, 2001

This blue-eyed, blonde-haired beauty needs a loving family to thrive in!   Natalija is described as active and friendly.  She doesn't like to be told "no" or be reprimanded, and cries as a result  (aaahh, girls!).    Natalija likes to play games with her peers, even if she doesn't quite understand the rules.  She is friendly and responsive, and is very loving towards her caregivers and friends.   she is very good at playing independently and focusing on the task in front of her.  She is stubborn sometimes, but I have found that this is a common trait of children with Down syndrome!   Natalija does have a few words and basic self-service skills.  She can dress and undress without help, and also eats and drinks unassisted.

"Emilija" (# 64)

Girl, Born on April 14th, 2001

Little Emilija is just beautiful!  She has light blue eyes and dark blond hair.   Emilija's receptive language is good.  She understands what adults say to her, but she can not speak on her own yet.    The doctor recommends continued speech and physical therapy, even gymnastics and music therapy!  Emilija does have an older sister, but she is not available for adoption.

Naomi (#B29)

Girl, Born May 8, 2002

Miss Naomi was born via C-section with club feet and intervalvular defect II degree in her heart.  SHE HAS HAD SURGERY AND IS NOW UP AND WALKING!!

Recently, one of our families adopted a little boy with DS and clubbed feet from Ukraine.  They wanted to share this message with potential adoptive families in the hopes it will help Naomi find a loving family of her own!
"As soon as I saw that Naomi has clubbed feet, my heart skipped a beat. I pray that there is a family out there who will take the leap of faith to bring home a child with Ds AND clubbed feet. Xander has been such a blessing to our family and the journey that we are still traveling to help him overcome the obstacles of unrepaired clubbed feet, while stressful at times, has added to the blessings and the testimony of our adoption and his life.   If anyone out there is thinking about taking a chance on this little girl, please know that I have become quite the expert on clubbed feet and Ds.....and I'm always happy to talk honestly with anyone about our ongoing experience."

Isabelle   (# B305)

(child's name has been changed to protect their identity)

Girl, Born February 14, 2002

From her medical records:

The child is in a very good general condition.   Elementary thinking processes are observed. She can't speak but pronounces sounds and combinations of sounds: ba-ba, etc. that are completely random.   She knows her name and reacts when called.   She carries out elementary orders.   She is not oriented for place and time.   Her attention is unstable, her memory is mechanic.

In emotional aspect the child is calm, merry and playful. She enjoys the attention that she is paid and actively seeks it. She easily enters into interaction with the children and the adults in the orphanage. She has friends among the children and prefers to play with them.  She reacts actively in musical classes - makes rhythmical movements, but almost doesn't play with toys and prefers to put them in her mouth or toss them.

The child walks independently and carries out the orders of the physical therapist - crouches, stands up.   She already eats by herself. She doesn't signal about her physiological needs and is taken care of entirely by the personnel of the orphanage.

The child is being taught to put her clothes on and take them off on her own. The training for gaining life skills continues.

Emily  (21)

Girl, Born July 13, 2002

This little muffin is very high functioning and healthy.  Her birth family still visits her, but she is registered and available for adoption, and is already living in the home for older girls with special needs.   She isn't verbal quite yet, but she makes many sounds and is really getting there.  She is very active and an affectionate little girl.

You can tell from her photos that she has been well loved, and it is such a blessing that she has known the love of her bio family for all of these years.    Her parents know there is no future for her in their country, but she DOES have a future in the US or Canada.  Please consider making Emily part of your family!

There are many other beautiful older girls with Down syndrome in this orphanage.  Please consider a "blind" referral of one of them!

Angelia

Girl, Born April 7, 2001

Angelia has been living in an institution for 5 years.  Yet she is healthy, active, happy and SO ready for a family to love her and show her what her life is supposed to be like.  She does have some strabismus, but no heart condition.  The orphanage staff tell us she does like to play with toys, is interactive and affectionate, and has "potential to improve".
Angelia is in a place where we have successfully adopted several children out of, and those families can tell you horror stories about many of the other kids there.   Angelia is strong and healthy, despite her surroundings.  What a miracle it would be to save her!

Valerie

Born October 4, 2002

"My name means RAIN"

Little Varsha is one of the prettiest little girls you will ever see!  She is 6 years old and unfortunately, has had at least 2 adoptions fall through for various reasons.  We are anxiously seeking a family to adopt her quickly.

Varsha  is  a healthy, happy little girl.

Varsha came to the orphanage in October 2002. The police had found her at a bus stand in East Delhi.   According to doctor’s assessment she was one day old.  According to the doctor, Varsha was born prematurely at 28 – 30 weeks.   Initial days she suffered from dehydration, hypothermia and neonatal jaundice and pneumonia.  Her weight during that time was 1.1kg.   She had to be hospitalised for a week Her chromosomal check showed that she is a Down syndrome child.   Bottle-feeding was introduced in the month of November 2002.   By end of November her weight was 1.75kg.
On 7th March 2006,  Varsha took her first 5 steps on her own!  She followed a few instructions like ‘hold the napkin’, give it back’ etc.  She was able to use a spoon to feed herself with ice cream.

She started going to a special school in April 2007. She enjoys her school.  On holidays it looks like she missed her school.   She spends 5yrs in the school.   5 days a week.   Varsha loves to dance.  She also loves to drum on her toy drum or tables etc.   She has beautiful silky hair.   She helps in dressing up and wearing her shoes.   She follows instruction most of the time.

She shows affection. She seeks attention. She loves to be carried. She needs big hugs from her caregivers.

At present her weight is 14kgs; height is 100.5 cms and HC is 44cms

Varsha is going to be a blessing to any family who is able to adopt her.   She is clearly doing well in a "family" setting, loves school, and will be able to adjust quickly to her new adoptive family.

Natalia

Girl, Born March 5, 2002

This beautiful little girl is waiting for her family to give her the chance to really blossom.  Natalia was born with a complete AV canal, but she has had surgery and is totally healthy now.  She is not taking any medications for her heart.  She is a darling girl, but nonverbal.    She is quite low functioning at this time.  She is able to sit and crawl, she can stand with support, and can climb in and out of her bed, but she is not walking independently at this time.  She is not eating by herself either, but she certainly has the ability to learn to do all of these things in a family environment!

Please give Natalia a chance!

There is no "court"...only a beautiful "adoption ceremony".  Orphanage donations are not required.   Short, simple dossier, very short wait for travel once your dossier is submitted.  This is a very easy program, and we could get many children with Down syndrome out of this country with minimal costs and easy travel requirements.

Dawn (# B307)

Girl, Born February 15, 2001

Dawn is just too cute!  This photos was taken in 2004, we are hoping for a more recent one soon.

Dawn was born inborn cardiac malformation -intra-auricular defect - secundim type, persisting arterial channel.  She lags behind in her mental development.

Girl, Born March 20, 2003

My name means "Resurrection"

This precious little girl really needs a family to help her get through some of her medical complications, and to provide the therapy she needs to be all she can!

At 4 1/2 years, she is still not walking...few self help skills, although she is making sounds.  Not only does Anastasiya have Down syndrome, she also has hydrocephaly, which have impacted her with cystic formations in the right hemisphere, several smaller in the left one, and widened brain ventricles. She has struggled with several bouts of pneumonia and upper respiratory infections.  We can't help but wonder what a difference it would make in her life and her level of functioning if she had a loving family to help her!

Girl, Born September 2002

Beautiful, healthy little girl with brown hair and big brown eyes!   Lunae is very high functioning and actually speaks/understands two languages, including ENGLISH!

We are so blessed to finally have some children referred from this country.   Country fees have been reduced by $14k and income requirements reduced as well!!    Orphanage care is outstanding in comparison to other countries.   The children are very well loved and cared for here.   But it is still never the same as having a loving family of their own, and the advantages of being raised in the United States.
